Hoowa!

Normally I do not buy things for the sake of brand names but every once in a while I make an exception.

I could not resist that soy sauce above!

It was at the Hoowa Supermarket which I love. I stopped in on my way to my mom's. The Hoowa Supermarket is not air conditioned on a 90 degree day. The proprietor sat in a side room fanning herself with a big red Oriental fan. I know, stereotype alert! But it was true.

The bright side of having no air conditioning is that everything is cheap. I was able to find cheap tofu for one thing. That was one of those things that were bugging me because they are so expensive in supermarkets. I like tofu once in a while. It is one of those hippie things about me, like I like to make my own soap and roast my own granola and when people ask me what my favorite Grateful Dead song is I have a ready answer, although sometimes it is a tie between one and another.

River goin' to take me singing sweet and sleepy
Sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home

Well, there goes my work ethic for today!

Oh, to go back to 1970 when the Dead came out with "American Beauty" and you could go to the Hollywood Bowl and listen to Leonard Pennario playing Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini." Alas, I was too young at the time to take advantage of these things.

Today is Pennario's birthday so I am thinking of him.

Back to the Hoowa Supermarket. Last week when I went looking for tofu I could not believe how pricey it was! At Dash all they had was, ahem, organic tofu, and it cost a pretty penny, something like $3 for 14 ounces. Subsequent supermarkets were almost just as bad. I thought, what happened to those cheap vacuum packs for $1? They are not anywhere! Even at Budway's I was stuck with expensive tofu.

The Obama Administration must have outlawed those cheap tofu vacuum packs!

Then I hit the Hoowa Supermarket which is bright pink and sits on Sheridan Drive. And there they were -- cases of tofu, all kinds, big sizes, brightly packaged, for -- ta da! -- $1.39.

Now, that is more like it!

Victory!

Stereotyping: Is that doing your writing while listening to vinyl? OK, OK, so shoot me for that one!

Stereotyping II: I used the term "Oriental" at our Thai restaurant and was immediately corrected to "Asian". Then, I got my corrector to admit that "Oriental" is not a slur word and that "Asian" covers a lot of territory, not just the Far East. But she wouldn't back down.

Whaddya expect out of them stubborn....oops, now I'm doing it.

When the page first opened and I saw 'House Wife' in a bottle, I thought, I must have some of that! But, Soy sauce? Guess not... :)

Hippie? I figured you too young for that. Be glad. I was born in 1946 and WAS one. Now look at me... :(

Stereotyping.... HAHAHAHAHAA! I never would have thought of that. That should be the name of a Web log about vinyl! Too funny.
